NIAR600k part of the ARWS

We have 20 unique team spots due to permits. Entry Fees is 30.000 sek per Team (Inc. VAT 6%). Entries close May 28th 2021 unless sold out sooner. Your registration is confirmed on the website upon registration. After you simply pay the 30.000 sek 7 days after you receive your invoice. You will be sent an invoice through email. New for 2021.

When you register your for your NIAR race 2021 you can guarantee your Photo portfolio after the race. Teams can simply buy a team media package from the NIAR media house by ticking the box “media package”. The cost is 5.500 SEK per team. NIAR media house will give you a photographer that follow your team for the race. It includes a guaranteed photo portfolio that you and your team can use to promote your team f0r sponsors and SoM after the race with you own personal photos!

NIAR will host all racers from June 4-5th including all meals at TBA in Stockholm. At the finish line NIAR will host all teams between June 10-11th 2021.

What you will need to provide:

  • Travel to and from the event Race center in Stockholm, Sweden.


Teams may officially cancel their entry at any stage prior to the event by writing, calling or emailing the race organisers.

Note: 30% of registration fee is not refundable at any stage. After April 23rd Nordic Islands Adventure Race organization will NOT refund any entry fees.

If the race is cancelled due to acts of god, natural disasters, terrorism or other reasons etc, the organisers will make every effort to refund as much of the entry fee as possible to all teams. The race will not be re-scheduled.


The 2021 race will set teams on a new adventure in Stockholm, Sweden, and the unique archipelago with 26,000 islands. The race will mix urban exploration with remote adventures in the archipelago and national parks. Teams will also be challenged with big rope skills sections and new navigational problems.

Why Stockholm?

Staffan; -We choose to come back to Stockholm because there is still much to explore and show here. We believe that bringing the races into the city will help teams with their sponsorships and make the sport more accessible. Also, hosting an ARWS and ARES event together in the same race will be something new and fresh. Our goal is to create a fair, tough, unique and different race from what racers are used to. Of course we keep include hotels and meals for all teams in the entry fee.

Course Description NIAR600k 2021

COURSE – The Nordic Islands Adventure Race 600km course teams must Trek/Run, Bike, Kayak, Swim 200 meters, Secret Stage, Coasterring, navigate and complete roping elements to reach the finish line. We will show the “Best of the Best” off what Stockholm and the archipelago has to offer.

Teams competing on NIAR600k will start together with teams competing in NIAR24h. Everyone will start on Saturday (see schedule below) and race 24 hours. At 12:15 team competing in NIAR600k will get new directions for the “restart” at approximately (14:00am).

Team entering NIAR600k can win two races in one. Meaning both NIAR24h and NIAR600k.

The winning team will complete the course in 3,5-4 days and all other teams are permitted up to +6 days to complete the course. There will be cut off on the course and options for short courses to allow teams the maximum time to complete the full course of XX Legs. There will be one mandatory stop and no dark zones – a genuine Nordic adventure.

LIVE TRACKING – Teams will carry tracking devices throughout and are visible to spectators through the live race website.

MANDATORY EQUIPMENT – The race will use the Standard ARWS Mandatory Equipment List. Download the Mandatory Equipment List – NIAR600k 2021

  • EMERGENCY FLARE will be mandatory on the kayak leg. Can be bought by the race organization in Stockholm. 


  • Each person need: 

    • Rappel device; ATC, ATC Guide or Reverso 3 el. 4
    • 1 pieces of 120 cm Nylon, polyester or dyneema sling
    • 3 pieces of carabiners
    • Prusik: 135 cm long 6 mm rope when its not tied. Must be tied with double fisherman knot
    • Harness; Must follow EN12 277 type C standard with identification tags, and with belay loop
    • Helmet: CE standard Bike Helmet
    • Leather Gloves

    Climbing sections are NOT mandatory, but if you don’t do it, a great time penalty will be added to your team. 

    For the first rope section only 2 in the team need to do the rope skill (1 for do teams). Second rope skill section, everyone on the team has to do it. 

All equipment will be checked before the race. There will be no exception from this list, the permits demand this equipment and you will not be allowed to go through the rope sections without this gear. Teams are also responsible to know their rope skills. Teams must know how to rappel. 

LOGISTICS – The course outline and logistic diagram will be released one weeks before the race allowing teams to begin their equipment/food preparations and travel to the race with only the equipment they require.

RULE OF COMPETITION – The Nordic Islands Adventure Race uses the AR World Series Rules of Competition – Download It is adjudicated by an official AR World Series Referee, LARS BUKKEHAVE. 

SWIMMING – There will be one swim section of 200 meter for NIAR600k in fairly could water.

PACKRAFT – NO PackRaftig for NIAR 2021.


TRANSITION BAGS – Teams need to provide their own TA bags and bike boxes. 4 personal bags of maximum 130 liter without wheels for the first 24h, Bag A and B for NIAR600k, maximum 150 liter. Max weight for each bag and bike box is 25 kg.

BIKE BOXES – Each athlete must provide a bike box made by hard plastic to be no larger than 140cm X 80cm X 30cm (standard ARWS size). If you don’t have a bike box, you can pre order one at Cost: 2.100 SEK.

PADDLE BAGS – Not needed

KAYAKS – Bring your own Kayak Pumps, highly recommended. Kayaks will be provided by the Race Organisation. 

  • EMERGENCY FLARE will be mandatory on the kayak leg. Can be bought by the race organization in Stockholm.

Nordic Islands Adventure Race will host all racers in NIAR600k from June 4th-5th, including all meals in Stockholm at Quality Hotel Globe.

At the finish line Nordic Islands Adventure Race will host all finishers with accommodation, breakfast and ceremonial dinner with party between June 10-11th, 2021.
